Losing weight can help reduce snoring if you are overweight, according to the NHS.
Losing weight also has direct heart health benefits, as being overweight forces your heart to work harder to pump blood around your body, which can raise your blood pressure, a precursor to heart attacks.
The health department also recommends trying the following self-help tips to relieve snoring:
Sleep on your side – try taping a tennis ball to the back of your sleepwear, or buy a special pillow or bed wedge to keep you on your side
Ask your partner to use earplugs if your snoring is interfering with their sleep
You should also avoid unhealthy lifestyle habits like smoking and drinking too much alcohol to treat snoring, according to the health page.
Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption also increase the risk of cardiovascular complications.
